GD Chalmers name has been synonymous with excellence in the field of electrical contracting from new build to rewiring, industrial to commercial and associated services. Our turnover has grown to over £8 million and we employ upwards of 70 skilled employees.
By providing a comprehensive electrical building new build and refurbishment service we have won major contracts with local authorities, housing associations and councils throughout Scotland. With most of our work being repeat business, demonstrating our success in delivering on time, and on budget projects by providing a full range of trades and services from electricians to plumbers, joiners, plasterers, carpet fitters and so on, putting together the right skills and team for each job.

Case Study: School Refurbishments
Over the past years, we have completed rewiring works along with general refurbishment work on a number of schools, carrying out works while schools were occupied, including outwith school hours working to meet the requirements of the programme as Principal Contractor and within budget.
As principal contractor, GD Chalmers were required to take full responsibility for the entirety of the works. Programme works as per the client's requirements. Taking on the duties of the CDM co-ordinator. Advising and assisting the client with their H & S duties. Notifying the project to the HSE. Coordinating health and safety aspects of design work and cooperate with others involved with the project; facilitate good communication between the client, designers and contractors. Identify, collect and pass on pre-construction information; and prepare/update the health and safety file.
Further to this, as Principal contractor our responsibilities included; Planning, managing and monitoring the construction phase in liaison with any other contractors. Prepare, develop and implement a written plan and site rules (Initial plan completed before the construction phase begins). Give contractors relevant parts of the plan. Make sure suitable welfare facilities are provided from the start and maintained throughout the construction phase. Ensure all workers have site inductions and any further information and training needed for the work. Consult with the workers and liaise with the CDM coordinator regarding ongoing design. Secure the site.
